“The CW’s MadTV reboot has lined up its new cast.
The news comes two months after the network announced that it was bringing back the former late-night sketch show, which aired on Fox from 1995 to 2009 and helped propel several of its original castmembers (Keegan-Michael Key, Jordan Peele, Ike Barinholtz, Alex Borstein and Orlando Jones, among others) to stardom.
In addition to the eight new castmembers announced Wednesday, familiar faces from the original series are set to guest-star in various episodes to reprise their beloved MadTV characters.
“MadTV is all about the cast and their characters,” executive producer and showrunner David E. Salzman said. “We have double-barreled strength — an amazing new cast of eight, plus fan favorites from our original 14 seasons who will also appear on our new series for The CW.”
Salzman exec produces with Mark Teitelbaum and John Montgomery, with Telepictures producing. The MadTV revival premieres Tuesday, July 26, at 9 p.m. on The CW — the first time the sketch show will air in primetime. The CW previously hosted a 20th anniversary reunion special for the series last year, and old episodes of the series are available on The CW Seed.
