“‘Zootopia’ Sprints Past $300 Million at Worldwide Box Office”

“Disney’s animated hit “Zootopia” is sprinting past a pair of box office milestones Friday, crossing the $100 million mark in the U.S. and $300 million worldwide.

The film is expected to win its second weekend at the U.S. box with at least $40 million against a quartet of new releases including “10 Cloverfield Lane” and “The Brothers Grimsby.” It earned $3.9 million on Thursday to conclude its first week with $92.6 million.

“Zootopia’s” launch weekend of $75 million marked the biggest three-day Walt Disney Animation Studios opening of all time.

On the foreign front, “Zootopia” generated Disney’s largest animated debuts in Russia, China and Belgium, and the top Disney Animation debuts in France, Germany, Italy, Argentina, Mexico, Poland and India. It’s also become Disney’s highest-grossing animated release of all time in Russia and Thailand.

“Zootopia,” which opened in several international markets three weeks ago, took in $8.7 million on Thursday to lift its international total to $207.1 million. China is by far the biggest market with $52.8 million, followed by France with $22.4 million and Russia with $16.7 million.

“Zootopia” was directed by Byron Howard and Rich Moore, co-directed by Jared Bush. It features the voices of Ginnifer Goodwin, Jason Bateman, Idris Elba, J.K. Simmons, Tommy Chong, Octavia Spencer, Jenny Slate and Shakira.
