“Could ‘Agent Carter’ Join ‘Agents of SHIELD’ in Future Seasons?”

“ABC’s Agent Carter is currently facing an uncertain future. Between the modest ratings and star Hayley Atwell’s recent commitment to another TV pilot, speculation is that the Marvel series could be on the chopping block. But fans of the show shouldn’t lose hope just yet. According to producers, there’s a chance that the heroine could live on in future seasons of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, if Agent Carter is eventually officially canceled.

While Agent Carter has garnered critical acclaim throughout its two seasons, it’s never exactly been a ratings powerhouse. After earning a pleasantly surprising renewal last year, the second season has only continued to see disappointing ratings. The season two premiere earned a low 3.3 million total viewers and a 1.0 demo rating, despite heavy marketing. Since then, the shown has drawn a season average of 2.7 million viewers and a 0.79 demo score. Given those fledgling numbers, it’s no surprise that Agent Carter‘s shot at a season three renewal is far from a sure thing.

As of now, ABC has yet to make a decision on Agent Carter’s fate. But even if the network does decide against renewing the show, there could still be hope for fans that want to see more of Atwell’s character in the future. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D showrunners Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen said there’s a chance that the heroine could join the S.H.I.E.L.Dcast in future seasons, if Agent Carter fails to get renewed.

“There’s always that possibility,” Tancharoen said when asked if there’s room for Agent Carter in the S.H.I.E.L.D universe.

While there are no current plans to combine the two worlds, Whedon says there are plenty of ties between the shows that could potentially be explored. “We are in an old SSR base, and Agent Carter founded SHIELD. There’s definitely a direct line between the two,” he told THR…”
