“‘Jessica Jones’ Season 2: What We Know (and Don’t Know) So Far”

“Of all the popular Netflix shows of the last year, there are few that generated the amount of buzz of Marvel’s Jessica Jones. Daredevil may have set the bar high with its early-2015 debut, but there’s no questioning the sheer power of the Krysten Ritter-led follow-up effort. Over its 13-episode run, we were treated to a stunning narrative on abuse victims, set to the backdrop of Marvel’s decidedly grimmer Netflix universe. Knowing all this, it was no surprise to anyone when Jessica Jones was officially picked up for a second season.

It marks a huge landmark for the show for a couple reasons. First and foremost, it’s proof positive that a female superhero can carry her own series, stacking well on top of ABC’s Agent Carter and CBS’s Supergirl. Secondly, it’s no small feat scoring a second season wedged into an already-busy Netflix schedule. The streaming service still has Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Punisher, and The Defenders yet to make their own respective debuts, making little space for anything more than an initial run for most of our heroes. So without further ado, here’s everything we’ve heard so far.

1. There’s no official release date

We have the “what”: Jessica Jones is coming back for a second season, in tandem with the planned role in the Defenders crossover series. What we don’t have is the “when.” As of recently, Marvel and Netflix have a metric ton of new content coming down the pipeline. The current timeline has Daredevil‘s second season arriving March 18 of this year, followed by Luke Cage in the latter half of 2016. 2017 will then tentatively mark the arrival of Iron Fist, and from there, things get a little murky.

We know there’s going to be a Punisher series starring Jon Bernthal (The Walking Dead), and eventually, all our heroes will come together in The Defenders. If Netflix keeps moving at a two-series-per-year pace, that puts Season 2 of Jessica Jones at least a couple years away (and that’s not figuring for potential second-season pickups for the other yet-to-be-aired series)…
